Many exporters want both distributors and direct customers in a new market. That is reasonable. Trying to reach both with one campaign usually produces a message that fits neither, and a list that mixes companies with very different reasons to reply.
Two audiences. Two campaigns.
- Distributor · buys to resell
Look for a related portfolio and sales coverage. Discuss range and partnership fit.
- End buyer · buys to use
Look for operational need. Discuss specifications, suitability and supply.

Two commercial roles
A distributor buys to resell. It cares about margin, territory, the range it already carries, the support you provide and whether its customers will want your product. An end buyer buys to use. It cares about suitability, reliability, price, delivery and whether switching supplier is worth the effort.
| Distributor campaign | End-buyer campaign | |
|---|---|---|
| Evidence of fit | Wholesale or dealer activity, a related portfolio, a customer base you want to reach. | Operations that use the product, or projects that need it. |
| First question | Do you review new supplier lines for this category? | Do you source this product, and who handles suppliers? |
| Useful next step | Range overview and a partnership discussion. | Catalogue, specifications or a sample. |
| Who replies | Owner, business development or category manager. | Purchasing, operations or a technical buyer. |
Why the evidence differs
A keyword on a website does not establish commercial role. A company that mentions your product category might distribute it, install it, use it or simply write about it. For each campaign, set qualification criteria that describe the role you need, and require evidence for them. In Outreach Asia, each campaign has its own criteria, and a lead is scored with a written reason for why it fits.
Why the message differs
A distributor wants to know why the line would sell. An end buyer wants to know why it would work for them. Writing one message for both leads to a vague middle: a paragraph about the company, a list of products and a request for a meeting. Separate campaigns let each message ask one clear question.

Decide your channel policy first
Distributors will ask whether you also sell direct. Decide the answer before you start. If you intend to appoint a distributor in a territory, running a direct-buyer campaign in the same territory at the same time can create a conflict you then have to explain. It is simpler to sequence the campaigns, or to separate them clearly by segment or region.
Qualifying each kind of reply
When a distributor replies, the useful questions are about fit. Which brands do they carry in the category now? Which customer segments and regions do they cover? Do they hold stock and provide after-sales support? What would they need from a new supplier: samples, marketing material, training, credit terms? The answers show whether the fit is real before either side invests in a meeting.
An end buyer’s reply calls for other questions: what they buy now, in what volumes, to what specification and with what lead time. Keeping the campaigns separate keeps these conversations separate too, which makes the handover to your sales team clearer.
Setting it up
Outreach Asia campaigns have a purpose, such as finding buyers or finding distributors and partners, along with an audience, an angle and a call to action. Treat the two roles as two campaigns with their own criteria, messages and review. Our distributor-fit guide covers how to test commercial role from a company’s own description.
Before you move on.
- Each campaign targets one commercial role.
- Qualification criteria describe that role and need evidence.
- Each message asks one question suited to the role.
- Your policy on direct sales is decided before distributor outreach.
